Put not your trust in Facebook

Hello everyone,

I mean, don't get me wrong. Facebook and Instagram have done wonders for many businesses but at the time I am writing this the general consensus seems to be that recent changes to Facebook's algorithm have made it much harder to reach your audience.

I'm more of an Instagram user myself. It's much better for posting art, which is what I'm all about. Unfortunately Instagram is also owned by Facebook and I have noticed a troubling trend. When a post featuring a digital painting gets half the views of the sketch that it started out as, it is probably safe to assume it may have something to do with the link to the store where you can buy it in t-shirt form.

Instagram doesn't like it when you try to sell stuff without paying them to 'Promote' the post. I've tried it a couple times and I still haven't made my money back. Granted, that probably just means I need to make a better product. I'll get there eventually. People seem to like the 'Free Velociraptors' shirt.

The 80/20 Rule is a live and well. Maybe I should make more shirts featuring cute animals in cardboard boxes.

Anyway, the whole Instagram thing made me realize it's probably not wise to trust an unpredictable social media platform to host all your art. So I started redesigning the website for just that purpose.

If you check back often you can expect many more sketches, paintings, MadMeon merch and updates on the FanService Diner novel. It's currently in the 4'th draft / Blake Snyder Beat Sheet phase. I wish I had read Save The Cat before I finished writing the first draft.

Well I hope you like the new look of the place. Thanks for taking the time to read this and I hope you have a great week.
